Much Wenlock Olympian Trail - Much Wenlock has a long history dating back to 690 AD when a monastery was founded on the site of Wenlock Priory. But it is because of a Victorian Gentleman however, that the town can boast of its associations with the modern Olympics. Dr. William Penny Brookes campaigned tirelessly for the revival of the ancient Greek games. The trail will take you past some of the sites in the town, which are special to the Wenlock Olympian Games and Dr William Penny Brookes. Boscobel House - was built in about 1632 and following the execution of King Charles I in 1649, his eldest son made a brave though misguided attempt to regain the throne. In 1651 his hopes were crushed in the final conflict of the Civil War. Young Charles was forced to flee for his life and sought refuge at Boscobel, hiding first in a tree that is now known as the Royal Oak and then spending the night in a priest hole in the house's attic. Visitors can also see the dairy, farmyard, smithy, gardens, and a descendant of the Royal Oak. A Tearoom is available - ADMISSION FEES APPLY |

The area was so young in history, it was realised that the family's scheduled ancient monument back home - Glebe Farm - was attracting many archeologists and therefore to make it a viable holding, the idea of a vineyard was born in the 90's.
