Cycle to Work Schemes

Save up to 47% on a brand new tandem with a Cycle to Work scheme.

To promote healthier journeys to work and reduce environmental pollution, the 1999 Finance Act introduced an annual tax exemption, allowing employers to hire* (see note below) cycles and cyclist safety accessories to employees as a tax-free benefit.

There are many cycle schemes available, however the Green Commute Initiative is the only scheme that allows the benefits to be used when purchasing a Tandem.

  • No £1,000 limit, up to £10,000 unlike other Cycle to Work Schemes.
  • Can be used even if a current Cycle to Work Scheme is in place.
  • 6 months to 24 months payback available.
  • Ideal for Company Owners via PAYE.
  • NO admin for employers, because GCI manages the scheme.

* The hire word is used here because to get the tax break, HMRC rules mean you will actually be hiring a Tandem through Green Commute Initiative Ltd (GCI).  GCI is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority which is why GCI is the only scheme not restricted to the usual £1,000 limit.  The Tandem is yours to use and keep and at the end of the scheme GCI follow HMRC rules so the ownership can pass to you.  Unlike other schemes there’s no sting in the tail to transfer ownership to you.  Other schemes charge as much as 7% of the bike value!  That’s a big hit to your tax-break savings.

How does it work:

Contact your employer

The first step is to find out which cycle to work scheme your employer is signed up to, If your employer is not signed up to one, or you are not sure, speak to your manager or HR department, and direct them to this page or a scheme below.

Choose your bike

Visit our store, or drop us an email or give us a call, we will take the time to talk about what sort of tandem and equipment are best for you based on your intended purpose for the bike. We will talk you through the various options and complexities of modern bikes, using language that you can understand, rather than blinding you with tech talk.

Get your voucher

Once you have decided on a tandem, we will provide you with a written quote. This quote can then be submitted to the scheme that your employer is signed up to using their unique employer pin. If you are not sure what this is, ask your manager or HR department.

Your employer will then need to confirm your eligibility and approve your request, an invoice for the tandem package is then sent & a hire agreement will also be sent to you to sign. As soon as the bike is paid for, you will receive the voucher, which you then give to us.
